Devy in a Teaching Clinic

What deans, professors, and students can ask Devy — and how to control who gets access.

An Assistant That Knows the Academic Layer

In a teaching clinic, Devy answers from the academic data too — sign-off queues, requirement progress, cohort standing — with answers shaped to who's asking. The dean gets program strategy, professors get their operational queue, students get exactly their own numbers and nothing else. Same chat window, three different assistants.

Devy's chat page — faculty get sign-off and progress questions

For the Dean and Professors

Faculty questions Devy answers from live data:

  • The sign-off backlog — "how much is pending?", "what's gone stale?", "which students have the most work waiting?" The conversational version of the Faculty Supervision queue, useful mid-corridor between patients.
  • Student requirement progress — sorted least-complete first, or filtered to one student: "how is Dela Cruz doing on extractions?" gets the approved-versus-target answer without opening the matrix.

The starter chips under an empty chat differ by role — deans see strategic prompts (who's behind, which categories need cases), professors see operational ones (whose pile is blocking whom).

For Students

Students ask about their own progress — "how many more restorations do I need?" — and get their approved-versus-target pipeline. The walls are structural, not cosmetic: a student's Devy is pinned to their identity server-side; it cannot show another student's numbers or patients outside their assignments, no matter how the question is phrased. Progress answers follow the same rule as everything academic: only professor-approved work counts.

Controlling Access

The dean and owner always have Devy. Professors and students use it only while they hold the Devy AI permission — grantable and revocable per role in Settings > Roles. Programs typically leave it on for everyone (a student asking Devy their gap count is a student not emailing the registrar), but the switch exists per role when policy says otherwise.

Where It Fits Among the Tools

Devy doesn't replace the analytics pages — Requirements, At-Risk, Case Mix, Supervision remain the deep views with the tables and exports. Devy is the fast path: the between-patients question, the faculty-meeting fact-check, the student's nightly "where am I?" Think of the pages as the dashboard and Devy as the colleague who's already read it.
